Nationalstaat vs. Flächenstaat

Ein Thema, über das ich seit einiger Zeit nachdenke: Ist das Konzept des "Nationalstaats" überholt? Aufgrund der zunehmenden Migration ist die Bevölkerung der meisten Staaten sehr heterogen geworden. In manchen Staaten ist die Titularnation nur mehr eine Minderheit von vielen. Sollte man daher nicht eher von "Flächenstaaten" sprechen?
